Office, retail, and mixed-use owners carry a growing share of Washington's regulatory load. WBPA fights the mandates that raise operating costs and the taxes that follow them.
What we are working on
- Building performance standards. Pushing for realistic timelines, cost caps, and exemptions under the Clean Buildings Act and local versions of it.
- Energy codes and natural gas restrictions. WBPA joined the coalition challenging the State Building Code Council's natural gas restrictions.
- Permitting. Supporting shot clocks, SEPA reform, and limits on appeals that stall projects.
- ADA litigation abuse. Supporting notice-and-cure reforms so owners can fix access issues before being sued.
- Taxes. Opposing new local and state taxes aimed at commercial property and its tenants.
